Hi! My name is Nicholas and I am an undergrad student at Concordia University in Montréal, studying Urban Planning. I have been passionate about cities ever since a young fascination with the streetcars of Toronto and maps morphed into a greater understanding of the profession after reading books like The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs, City Form and Everyday Life by Jon Caulfield, and by the explosion of urbanist content online. In high school I got my urbanism fix by spending hours riding public transit in Toronto, where I grew up. I continued my passion for maps by designing a fictional city on fifty-two interconnected pieces of paper, detailing a completely thought-out transit system and history of this made-up metropolis, as both an art project displayed at my high school and for personal fulfillment. Some of this work is visible on the portfolio section of this website!

I attended Etobicoke School of the Arts for high school, an arts-focused school in Toronto. There I 'majored' in film, learning in-depth both the artistic and technical side of filmmaking, in a project-focused environment. I also learned computer editing skills on programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.

I am currently studying Urban Planning at Concordia University. Located in the heart of Montréal, the Geography, Planning, and Environment department at Concordia is known country-wide. The Next Generation Cities Institute is a research department focusing on making cities better for the future, and I am thrilled to be a part of that environment. Studying planning, I have not only learned the technical and research side of the occupation (computer programs such as ArcGIS, qGIS, R statistical programming, and Excel), I have also excelled in the soft-science side - the sociology and history of planning and cities in general.

My passion for cities and the world is something I hope to carry on into my future work.
