Over the course of both the fall and winter semester of 2023/24, my Urban Laboratory class actively worked with Montréal's Chinatown community to revitalize and rework their neighbourhood. As part of the Mobility and Accessibility team, I worked to reconnect community spaces within Chinatown.
In collaboration with Concordia's Next Generation Cities Institute, we presented our proposals to community members in a series of 'design charettes'. This ensured that our comprehensive learning of urban planning methods included community consultation and presentation.
My proposals included a redesign of Boulevard St. Laurent, the main thoroughfare through the neighbourhood, to better accommodate cycle traffic and to ensure safe traversal for pedestrians. The neighbourhood is home to many seniors and the question of safety for those without access to cars and limited mobility was a focus of our interventions.
